Nothing Beats Apple Pie

Delicious apple pie that will make your family melt!
Ingredients
  • For The Crust -
  • 2½ cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter (chilled and cubed)
  • ½ cup cold water
  • Apple Filling -
  • 7-8 granny smith apples
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ brown sugar
  • 1¼ tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 1½ teaspoons of cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
Instructions
  1. For the crust -
  2. Mix the flour, salt, and sugar
  3. Add in cubed chilled butter and mix in a food processor or with a pastry blender until mixture resembles crumbly corn mill
  4. Slowly add cold water until the mixture just starts to stick together
  5. Set aside and prepare a working surface sprinkled with flour
  6. Remove dough from ether your food processor or from your bowl and form two balls of dough
  7. This will serve as your top and bottom layer for your pie
  8. Cover both dough balls in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour
  9. Once your dough has chilled, prepare a new floured working space and roll the dough out about ½-1 inch thick and lay into your 9 inch pie pan
  10. Repeat the roll out for the second dough ball and cover your apple filling
  11. Cut away any access dough around the edges, pinch the edge with a fork and add four small slits in the shape of a star in the center of the pie
  12. For The Filling -
  13. Peel the apples and toss in a large bowl with the spices, sugars, and lemon juice
  14. Allow the apples to set in the mixture for 30 minutes
  15. Transfer the apples into a strainer and allow it to set over the large bowl for the juice to run into
  16. Allow the apples to strain for 45 minutes
  17. Add the juices from the strained apples to a saucepan
  18. Stir in the 2 tablespoons of butter and cornstarch
  19. Cook on medium heat until sauce thickens
  20. Pour apples into the pie crust
  21. Pour apple sauce over apples
